About North Kesteven

Located in Sleaford, Lincolnshire, North Kesteven District Council is privileged to provide services for a fantastic, diverse community spread out over the rolling countryside, charming towns and exciting metropolitan landscapes – there really is something for everyone.

Our district is largely rural, and we feel that our area is both unique in its challenges and its opportunities. We benefit from both sparsely populated villages just south of Sleaford, as well as being on the Lincoln fringe – providing more of a urban feel towards the north. Our endless countryside, with charming towns and villages, makes the district interwoven with a heritage that we are keen to celebrate, as well as a future we’re excited to get into. Public art, leisure, and our culture are central to our identity, and we are excited to share this with you.

If our heritage interests you, North Kesteven is home to ‘Mrs Smith’s Cottage’; a rare time capsule into the past, restored thanks to National Lottery Heritage Funding. Sleaford is also home to an Arts & Heritage Trail – a 3-mile walk that is inspired by the rich history of Sleaford. If cycling takes your fancy, there are several cycle routes across the district, helping you see all that we have to offer.

Our communities are what really make us thrive though. There are around 100 communities in the North Kesteven District, with a total population of 118,100 (Census, 2021) that call North Kesteven their home. Nearly a third of our population lives within the ‘Lincoln Fringe’. Major concentrations in the population are centred around Sleaford, North Hykeham and 11 larger villages with populations over 6,000. We have a range of support on offer for our communities, as they are central to everything that we do. For example, we offer a range of different community funding regimes, and every year we celebrate the achievement of District residents through the North Kesteven Community Champion Awards. Our Neighbourhood Plans are made public, so our residents can have direct power to develop a shared vision for their neighbourhood and share the development and growth of their local area.

We know that transport and connectivity will be a key factor in your decision on a place to work and potentially relocate. A few of our towns and villages are located on a direct line linking Peterborough to Lincoln, which then leads through to Grantham, Nottingham and Derby. We are also served by train connections to Sheffield and Manchester. There are several key bypasses around our district, including the A15 connecting the north of our district, to the south. We are also near the A1, connecting us to the South and North of England.
